The Summit will focus on building and developing the youth-led legislative pathway on the replacement of the safe drinking water and wastewater legislation through national youth engagement.
As a youth representative of your First Nation, this is an opportunity to provide input on what you think should be contained in the new legislation on safe drinking water and wastewater.
The youth participants will listen and engage in presentations related to the repeal and replacement of the Safe Drinking Water for First Nations Act and the ongoing work of the Joint Technical Working Group, participate in breakout group and plenary discussions regarding various water-related topics including regional water issues and priorities, First Nations rights and responsibilities to water, and the creation of First Nations water governance institutions. Furthermore, youth participants will also contribute to the development of a youth-led strategic document that will inform the work of the Joint Technical Working Group on Safe Drinking Water for First Nations Legislation.
Application deadline is 5:00pm EDT on September 16, 2022.
Please keep in mind that spots are limited to 75 applicants between the ages of 16-29 years old. Youth will be chosen based on their region and the quality of their application.
Participants who remain present for the entirety of the Summit will receive a $300 honorarium.
