Description/History of Program/Initiative

The Ministry established the Aboriginal Teacher Education Award at the Irving K. Barber BC Scholarship Society in 2012. The Aboriginal Teacher Education Award provides financial assistance ($5,000 annually) to Aboriginal students enrolled in teacher education programs, including First Nations language teacher education programs. Awards are renewable for the standard length of the program (up to 4 years from the start of the program).

Irving K. Barber B.C. Scholarship Society manages awards program.
