On March 4th, 2021, at BC Assembly of First Nation’s (BCAFN) 17th Special Chiefs Assembly, Chiefs-in-Assembly unanimously passed Resolution 15/2021: “Support for the Development of a Memorandum of Cooperation Between the BCAFN and First Nations Business Development Association.” The Association and the BCAFN are pleased to be working together in the near future to advance sustainable First Nations economic development via this new memorandum of understanding and cooperation.
Michael Bonshor, Managing Director, FNBDA quote
The BCAFN is a natural partner for the Association to collaborate with. We are stronger together and can create more opportunity and capacity for First Nations and their Development Corporations by collectively leveraging our respective resources and maintaining continuous communications.
Both organizations share common values including the unity of Nations, advocacy for the economic and other business interests of Nations, and the strengthening and sharing of knowledge required to make informed decisions. This memorandum will enable capacity development including in areas of governance, organizational structure, financial management, business planning and others are key to advancing economic self-determination of Nations. As the Association and the BCAFN have an interest in developing research and policy materials for use by First Nations along the continuum of economic development, this will be a first endeavor that the partnership undertakes.
Regional Chief Terry Teegee, BCAFN quote
I look forward to sharing information and developing joint initiatives with the First Nations Business Development Association under the economic development portfolio. This partnership will allow for more targeted advocacy and better strategic plans for achieving economic sovereignty for BC First Nations.
