BRITISH COLUMBIA ASSEMBLY OF FIRST NATIONS WOMENS COUNCIL 
Representative: Chief Lisa Shaver of the Penelakut Tribe Date of Election: June 28, 2007 Term of Office: Three Year Term The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) has created and is committed to sustaining a Women’s Council to ensure that the perspectives of First Nations’ women are included in all AFN policy directives and activities, as well as ensuring that the AFN is an effective advocate on behalf of First Nations women. Resolution 10/1998 called for the establishment of a National First Nations Gender Equality Secretariat Resolution 19/1999 reaffirmed the Gender Equality mandate and the establishment of a National Advisory Committee Resolution 16/2001 amended the AFN Charter to establish and include a Council of Women as a “Principal Organ” under Article 5 and the related roles, responsibilities and composition of the Council Resolution 12/2006 called for the reestablishment of the AFN Gender Secretariat
