Increase high-school graduation rates

First Nations control of jurisdiction

In absence of jurisdiction, control through local education agreements (LEAs)

Influence students directly

  • Continue to work with our communities in implementing jurisdiction (with partners)
  • Support and work with First Nation Education Steering Committee, First Nations Schools Association and other organisations.
  • Develop ‘FN Leaders in our schools’ program
  • Share ‘best practices’ in education (including LEAs)

Increase skills training (apprenticeships, community college etc.)

Provide more opportunities for training

Develop strategies for procurement and retention

  • Partner with Provincial government, unions and industry

Increase post-secondary graduation rates and diversity of programs attended by First Nation students

Maintain and increase financial support for post-secondary education

Promote a variety of career options for First Nation students

Development of First Nation public administration programs

  • Work with First Nation Education Steering Committee, First Nations Schools Association  and other organisations
  • Develop ‘Leaders in our schools’ program
  • Develop partnership with education institutions to support enhanced First Nations’ public administration programs

To ensure our Citizens are educated to make informed decisions regarding rights and title implementation (being prepared to vote)

To improve communication with our Citizens – provide ongoing learning opportunities

  • Development of Community Engagement tool
    Community Workshops
  • Develop Regional communication plan
  • Enhancement of BCAFN website – increased use of social media
